Truth vs. Myth: The Real Deal About Boudoir Photography
There are several myths about boudoir photography that unfortunately discourage many women from experiencing it. Let’s debunk five of the most common misconceptions and help ease any concerns you might have if you’re feeling hesitant.
1. I have to be naked.
Whether you’re in lingerie, a potato sack, or nothing at all, the essence of boudoir photography is to empower YOU, not to make you feel uneasy. The only person who decides how far to take your shoot to express your inner goddess is you. You don’t need to do anything you’re uncomfortable with (like jumping on the bed in your birthday suit) to feel empowered—though if you do choose to, you won’t be judged!
2. I am not perfect.
Let’s be honest—nobody fits a perfect mold. Who you are right now is exactly who you need to be as you start this journey. I’ve photographed people of all ages, sizes, shapes, and colors, and the results are always stunning. Too often, we hold back from experiences because we don’t align with society’s beauty standards. Boudoir photography can help break those chains, showing you that anything is possible!
3. I will be judged for it.
Your shoot will be exactly what you want it to be, though it naturally carries a touch of sensuality. With something so deeply personal, it’s normal to feel vulnerable or fear being judged. But only you can decide what makes you feel like a goddess. I’m just there to help bring your vision to life and capture it through the lens. I don’t judge. Plus, no one will see these photographs unless you choose to share them—they can be your little secret!
4. Everybody will see my photographs.
As the client, YOU have full control over what I can use for promotional purposes. After your shoot, you’ll review the photographs and select your favorites. You’ll also decide if there are any images you’re comfortable with me using for my portfolio or for promotional purposes, such as on Facebook or my website. I require your explicit written permission before posting any boudoir photos online. If you prefer to keep your photos private, that’s absolutely fine—they’re yours to do with as you choose.
5. I don’t have someone (a partner/ significant other) to do this for.
Absolutely, you do! These photos are primarily for YOU. While many people choose to do these sessions as an unforgettable gift for their partner—and that’s a fantastic idea—above all, a boudoir photo session is a gift to yourself!
