Top 14 Essential Tips to Prepare for Your Boudoir Session
Boudoir Photos are so fun and beautiful, but they can also be a bit intimidating! Of course, you are going to want to be looking your very best! Here are some tips of how to prep for your sexy session so everything goes smoothly!
TIP #1: Stretching
It’s advisable to incorporate stretching into your routine in the days leading up to your session, especially on the morning of the session itself, as you’ll be posing in various positions during the session, much like a workout at the gym. If you’re not accustomed to regular exercise, you may experience soreness the day after your session.
TIP #2: Tanning
If you’re accustomed to tanning or spray tanning, that’s fine, but if you don’t normally do so, it’s best to avoid it right before your session. Tanning can result in uneven skin tones and tan lines in your photos, which may not be easily edited out. We wouldn’t want you to end up looking like an oompa-loompa 😉 Please note that tan lines are challenging to edit, so we do not remove them. To ensure the best results, it’s recommended to avoid sun exposure or apply extra sunscreen in the month leading up to your session.
TIP #3: Waxing/ Shaving
Remember to refrain from making any changes to your regular grooming routine before your session. If you’re not accustomed to waxing or any other grooming procedures, it’s best to avoid them to prevent potential irritation.
TIP #4: Before Session Prep
Prior to your session, we kindly request that you arrive with a freshly cleansed face and well-moisturized skin. It’s important to ensure your hair is completely dry and ready to be styled. We recommend washing your hair the night before, allowing your hair to air dry. However, if your hair doesn’t hold curls well, you may wash it up to 2 days before your session and apply styling products while it’s damp. Please note that hair and makeup services are complimentary gifts from us!
TIP #5: Spa Day
It’s a good idea to schedule an appointment at your preferred salon to touch up your roots, if needed, before your session. Additionally, getting a manicure and pedicure is recommended as your hands will be prominently featured in the photos, and well-groomed nails can add a nice touch. However, if you prefer a natural look, you can skip the spa day and simply ensure that your nails are clean and free of chipped polish.
If you’re considering dyeing your hair a fashionable color, please avoid doing so in the week leading up to your session, as there may be a waiting period before you can wash your hair and the color could potentially bleed onto furniture or lingerie during the session due to sweating. And let’s not forget about those brows!
Tip # 6: Hydrate
The most important thing you can do for your body? Stay hydrated! Make a conscious effort to drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your shoot. Not only will it make you feel better, but your skin and overall well-being will also thank you for it!
Tip # 7: Help with Bloating
While it can be tempting to indulge in dairy, gluten, and greasy foods, it’s recommended to cut back on or even eliminate these tasty but unhealthy treats at least a few days before your shoot to avoid feeling bloated. Feeling confident and radiant is important, and bloating can hinder that. Additionally, reducing alcohol and salt intake for 2 weeks prior to your shoot is advised, and it’s best to avoid alcohol entirely 48 hours before your session.
Tip # 8: Get an Alibi
If you’re keeping these photos as a surprise for a loved one, you’ll need a clever excuse for looking all dolled up and being unavailable. Plan a hangout with friends, ask your mom for cover, or even mention you’re getting headshots done. This way, you can come home looking fabulous and have your special someone take you out for a well-deserved date night. And if these photos are just for you, why bother with an alibi? Treat yourself to a girls’ night out on the town and flaunt how stunning you look – it would be a shame not to!
Tip # 9: Moisturize MOISTURIZE Moisturize
Do I really need to elaborate more? You’ll be showing off some skin in your shoot, so you’ll want it to be smooth, soft, and radiant! Moisturizing is key, and it’s more than just applying lotion on the day of the shoot (although that’s important too). Try incorporating daily lotion application after your shower and before bed in the days leading up to your shoot.
Additionally, consider exfoliating your skin with a body scrub to remove dead skin cells. Keeping up this routine even after your shoot is a good idea, as dry skin can lead to wrinkles, acne, and discomfort.
Tip # 10: Get Your Beauty Rest
Similar to the moisturizing tip mentioned earlier, it’s important to prioritize getting a good night’s sleep not just the night before your shoot, but in the days leading up to it as well. Make sure to hit the sack early and allow your body to rejuvenate, especially the night before your boudoir session. A well-rested body can contribute to a more refreshed and radiant appearance in your photos.
Tip # 11: Eat Something Light
Many people may think about eating less or skipping meals before a boudoir session to avoid feeling bloated. However, we strongly advise against doing so. It’s crucial to eat on the morning of your session, preferably a light meal, to fuel your body with the energy it needs for posing. It’s important to take care of your body and provide it with the nourishment it requires for a successful session.
Tip # 12: Wear Loose Clothing
On the day of your shoot, feel free to arrive in your comfy PJ’s! But in all seriousness, it’s best to wear loose clothing to prevent any lines or marks from tight clothing showing up in your photos. This is also a great opportunity to skip the bra and avoid any potential marks on your skin. Opting for loose and comfortable clothing will help you look flawless and feel at ease during your boudoir session.
Tip # 13: Try on Everything
It is best to try on all outfits ahead of time to ensure they fit well, make you feel comfortable, and look fabulous on you. If you’re not satisfied with how they feel or look, it may show in the photos. This way, you can return or exchange any items that don’t fit and have enough time for new ones to arrive before your session. We want to ensure you feel confident and stunning in your lingerie choices during your boudoir session.
Tip # 14: Cross the T’s and Dot the I’s
